The New Year is a time for looking at where you are in your life and where you want to go in the next 12 months. It is great that we have a motivation for looking at our situation and deciding whether we are happy with our place in life and what we would like to do to change that position. This self imposed date for review can and should be used to spur us on to doing the things we have put off before.

Two areas that see a lot of resolutions are weight loss and hair loss. The interesting thing is we want to get rid of the weight but we want to increase the amount of hair on our heads. If you are noticing more hairs on your pillow in the morning or more hair in you shower drain then now is the time to start to make a difference. The fact about hair loss is, the sooner you start to treat it the easier, cheaper, and more effective your results will be. If you are a woman then this is especially true because hair restoration for women is very difficult once you actually have lost significant amounts of hair. Females tend to have thinning hair problems over their entire scalp which means hair restoration surgery is not really as effective as for men.

Men actually have a very good option for hair restoration in the form of implantation, transplantation surgery, or a head shave. Men usually only lose their hair on the top, front, and vertex or crown area. This means implants can be very effective as a means to get growing hair follicles in the bald spot. If you are a man who has bald areas this method of hair treatment is very beneficial. In fact, it is the most effective treatment for balding.

For the New Year, if you have hair loss, make the resolution to start a treatment that will keep as much of your youthful look as possible.

Ask any personal trainer for a beverage recommendation containing nutritional benefits, and an acai berry drink is likely to be among their top choices. As much as orange juice is considered a favorite health drink in America, an acai berry drink is equivalent in popularity in Brazil, where the acai berry is blended into a delicious smoothie.

Why would a personal trainer recommend an acai berry drink? There are numerous health and nutritional benefits associated with this unique rainforest fruit which is harvested from the acai palm tree native to Central and South America. This small purplish-red berry, about the size of a cranberry, is extremely rich in anthocynanins and flavonoids, both powerful antioxidant substances which help the body’s cell structure resist aging and deterioration due to free radical damage.

The level of antioxidants contained in acai berry juice is ten times that contained in fresh grape juice and 200% of the amount contained in fresh blueberries, accounting for the acai berry being considered one of the power fruits for the 21st century.

Among other health benefits of consuming an acai berry drink on a regular basis is this fruit’s anti-cancer fighting properties and its ability to contribute to improved heart health. Many people who make beverages containing acai berries among their favorite drink choices report that they experience increased energy levels, and deeper and more restful sleep patterns. Including the acai berry in a well balanced dietary plan can also help improve the body’s circulation, strengthen bones and muscles, as well as improve the body’s digestive processes, thanks to the berry’s high fiber content which prevents constipation.

The acai berry also contains traces of such healthful vitamins as B1, B2, B6, C and E, along with omega 3 fatty acids, protein, and such essential minerals as calcium and potassium, good for both the nervous system and regulating the blood pressure. Although not proven by scientific research, the acai berry is also credited with having a positive effect on those actively trying to lose weight.

This is a guest post from Johnathan K. over at Muscle Rumor.

have you tried going for runs in order to lose weight? Have you spent countless hours going to the gym and not seeing any results? Have you tried every weight loss pill and weight loss contraption that you’ve seen on TV, with no such luck? Well, the problem definitely isn’t your effort, it’s what you are doing. In order for effective weight loss, and easy ways to work out, you need to really change your habits and mentality in one key area and you’ll begin to see some weight loss results.

Better Cardio

Many people think that if they spend a ton of time on the treadmill or elliptical machine at the gym, or even if they go out jogging, that they’ll see amazing weight loss results in their personal fitness. That is definitely not the case, and here is why. Your body is an intelligent machine, and when you do a certain motion, your body begins to adapt.

When you first were trying to walk, you could barely stand because your legs weren’t used to the motion. But, then you could stand because your body adapted but you couldn’t walk. Then, you could walk a few steps and not far. Then, you were able to take off running. That’s because your body began to adapt to each motion started to get efficient at it.

When you go running, your body begins to adapt to the motions of running and your body begins to become more efficient at it. While that is great if you are trying to run a marathon, it is not good for weight loss. You body burns less and less calories when you run because it has become efficient at running, and so you won’t see any weight loss result. Check this place out for an elliptical sale.

The key to overcome this is to mix up your cardio fitness. If you do interval training, you’ll be keeping your body guessing and unable to adapt. The best thing you can od is to jog for a minute, then sprint for a minute, then jog for a minute and sprint for a minute. If you continually switch it up, your body will be unable to adapt, and you’ll be able to lose weight more effectively.

Tanning

Once your body is ripped you’ll want to consider indoor tanning lotion to show off your definition.

Other Things to Consider if You’re a Male

Using a badger shaving brush and how to select the best shaving brush.

Liability insurance is a must for any personal trainer. Whether you’re new trainer or an experienced professional liability insurance is one of the best ways to protect yourself from a litigation. But just what should you look for when purchasing liability insurance? In this article, I’ll discuss the do’s and don’t you should look for when buying personal trainer insurance.

What is the average cost for personal training insurance?

Rates vary from state to state. However, you can find general rates by visiting your states insurance department. Simply go to Google and type “liability insurance rates your state.” Remember that cost is not the only thing you should look for when buying insurance. Check out different policies and see which ones protect you the most.

Where can I find liability insurance for personal trainers?
The Internet is a great place to start. Many web-based companies offer some basic form of coverage. IDEA, a trusted fitness industry group, offers personal training insurance for most trainers. Start by calling five different organizations and compare the coverage and price.

What happens if I get sued?
If you are not covered by personal trainer liability insurance you better be prepared to defend yourself in court. However, if you do have coverage, the company will usually defend you in court.

What if I have waivers, do I still need insurance for personal trainers?
The sad truth is that waivers don’t really protect you from litigation. Often times, waivers are written by amateurs that don’t have the correct legal terminology in place. Waivers also vary from state to state and leave many loopholes open for a trainer to get sued. While, a waiver is a good document to have in place, I still recommend a solid liability protection plan in place for maximum coverage.

So there you have it, a basic run down of things you must know when buying personal trainer insurance. Make sure to do your homework and compare different companies before you commit to buying a plan. Once you’re covered, you’ll be able to focus more on your business and less on legal issues.

Today, I have for you the top 5 personal training trends for 2010. Many have speculated about what trends in personal training will happen in 2010. Here’s my take on the future.

1. Shorter sessions
Longer hours at work combined with a busy home life will leave your clients feeling like they have even less time for the gym. Accommodate for these needs by providing shorter express sessions for your clients. Offer 30 minute sessions instead of your traditional 60 minute sessions. You’re clients will see the shorter sessions as an easier way to get a workout in during their lunch beak or on their way home from work.

2. Small group sessions
Small group sessions will be a great way to provide value packages to customers. While the U.S. economy tries to rebound from recession, group sessions will encourage clients to share the cost of training. Group sessions will also keep clients motivated longer by having friends and peers join in on the fun.

3. Web-based training
Web-based personal training will continue to grow. Now more than ever, people are starting to adopt the Internet as an everyday necessity. Offer your clients web based training services that they can complete from their home, on the road, or anywhere else they find an Internet connection. Many online companies already offer software for you to tailor for your customers. Simply do a Google search for “online personal training” and you’ll come across a wide variety of programs you can use.

4. Corporate wellness programs
As the costs of health care continue to increase, corporations will continue to invest in preventative health measures to save on medical costs. Use this as an opportunity to introduce corporate wellness packages to surrounding businesses. Offer a volume discount and watch your profits soar.

5. Virtual terminals
The days of cash are over. Get with it and start accepting plastic for your training sessions. Allow your customers the option to pay online. Ensure that customers pay on-time by enrolling them in an automated payment plan. Virtual terminals are easy to install simply visit services like PayPal and sign up from a free account.

Personal trainer success has almost as much to do with what you do outside the gym as what you do inside of it. Inside the gym your making sure you design the proper fitness plan for your client. You make sure they follow proper form and you measure their progress. Outside the gym you worry about things such as scheduling your clients. You look for ways to promote yourself and look for methods of increasing your business. In this post, I will offer you a quick key for personal training success outside of the gym.

Know your customer well…very well

The single most important part of any business, and personal training is a business, is to understand who your customers are. By knowing who your customers are, you are able to market your business specifically to them and dramatically improve your response rates.

The key to knowing your customer is to get data from your clients. Once you begin to analyze the characteristics of your clients you will begin to see trends which will help you create a customer profile. A customer profile will be a typical representation of who your client is and is not. Once you have a client profile, you will be able to tailor all of your marketing efforts: business cards, flyers, websites specifically to this customer. The result will be a dramatically improved response rate and an increase in your business.

So how do you get this data and find out who your customer is? The answer is simple, ask them. By asking them I mean give them a short survey with about 3-5 questions on it. Ask them to fill it out and begin to analyze.

I have provided 5 questions you can include in your survey:

1. Tell me a little about yourself?

2. What’s your favorite part about personal training?

3. What’s your least favorite part about personal training?

4. What do you need the most help with in your training?

5. What do you struggle with the most?

Final thoughts

The key is to ask broad questions so that they can provide good responses. Yes and No questions will not work well here. Ask your clients these questions and get ready for an eye opeining experience.

If you’re like many personal trainers, you’re too busy training clients to worry about taxes. But when tax season arrives, you wish you had spent more time preparing.

Since personal trainers often work part-time, at home or on the go as independent contractors, your personal trainer tax situation is different. Therefore personal trainers should know what tax deductions are available for you. You should discuss them with a tax professional. This article does offer tax advice for any particular personal or situation.

No matter what your situation, Personal Training Business Coach offers the top 5 write offs for personal trainers.

1. Promotional and Marketing Expenses

Promotional activities are essential for gaining exposure for your personal training business. Whether you’re advertising on the internet or off line, these expenses are deductible. Promotional and marketing expenses include everything from graphic design costs for logos, brochures, and websites. They also include the costs for placing ads offline such as newspapers and online such as pay per click campaigns. Evaluate your current situation and identify what types of advertising expenses you’ve incurred throughout the year. They may be tax deductable.

2. Home Office Expenses

Home office expenses can also be deducted from your taxes. These expenses include desks, computers, rent, printers, stationary and other costs related to your home office. Deductions vary by state and must be verified by a certified tax advisor.

3. Travel and Entertainment Expenses

Travel and entertainment expenses qualify for deductions as long as they are used for business purposes only. These include auto expenses such as gasoline and lodging expenses such as hotels. If you’re entertaining a guest and taking them out to dinner, as certain portion of that can also be deducted. Travel to and from conventions also qualify as tax deductions. Make sure to keep adequate records of business only expenses. This will help you identify which expenses are related to travel and entertainment.

4. Educational Expenses

Educational expenses including personal training certification programs may also be deducted. On-going education from industry associations, magazines, and books can be deducted. In order to qualify for deduction, these materials must be strictly for education relating to your personal training business. Educational deductions vary from state to state so make sure you confirm with a professional before deducting.

5. Retirement Plans

According to IdeaFit.com, retirement plans including IRA’s, SEP, and 401(K) in certain situations are tax deductible. One question personal trainers should ask before choosing a retirement plan is which one offers the most tax incentives without costing more money to manage.
